Winter Watering Reminder

🌲 Winter Watering Reminder for Trees & Shrubs

Even during the winter months, trees and shrubs require supplemental watering—especially in Colorado’s dry climate. Extended periods without moisture, combined with cold temperatures and wind, can cause root damage and winter desiccation.

Why Winter Watering Matters

  • Protects roots from drying out
  • Reduces stress heading into spring
  • Improves long-term plant health and survival

How to Water in Winter

Residents may use their exterior hose spigot to water trees and shrubs as needed.

Please note:

  • This is not connected to the irrigation system.
  • Do not turn on or attempt to operate the irrigation system during winter months.
  • Water only when temperatures are above 40°F and when the ground is not frozen.
  • Disconnect hoses after use to prevent freezing and pipe damage.

Slow, deep watering around the base of trees is recommended. For shrubs, apply water at the base to ensure moisture reaches the root zone.
